Teaching you to apply the Dutch CROW manual on bicycle traffic

The exceptional Dutch Bicycle Infrastructure Training equips participants with the skills to develop effective cycling policies and infrastructure. It highlights cycling as a sustainable, healthy mode of transport that reduces urban congestion and improves air quality, emphasizing the importance of well-planned cycling networks.

Overview

Organized by DTV Academy in collaboration with GO-bility and supported by the Dutch Cycling Embassy, the course offers a hands-on learning experience grounded in the principles of the renowned CROW Bike Manual. Participants will explore the essential elements of safe infrastructure design, understand cycling behavior, and learn the five fundamental design principles for cycling infrastructure.

By the end of the training, they will be equipped to integrate cycling into urban mobility policies, design safe and efficient cycling routes, and apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. Graduates will receive a certificate in bicycle infrastructure planning and design, enhancing their ability to advocate for and implement cycling-friendly environments.

When and where

Through expert presentations, excursions and on-site observations will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to design and implement effective cycling networks. During the course participants will work on their personal case studies implementing the learning straight away. Personal coaching and feedback will ensure a successful final presentation and graduation.

Learning bycycle infrastruture from DTV and the Dutch is definitely the best way to do it. They have years of experience and have tried many different solutions that now are proven and written on books. I recomend to get the Crow book also.

This course was an informative, practical, and entertaining way of learning about how the Dutch have rebuilt their societies and neighbourhoods so that they are for people, not traffic. We saw how the Dutch have an excellent quality of life, their children have independence, and how everyone of any age and ability can move around and between cities, towns and villages safely and conveniently on impressive infrastructure. I highly recommend this course.

The Dutch bicycle infrastructure training course was an incredible experience to not only see/ride all the different infrastructure functioning but to also learn about the challenges the Dutch have had and are also currently facing when implementing bicycle infrastructure. Meeting other participants and learning what has been working and not working in their countries was also invaluable! Teije and the other presenters were very knowledgeable and provided many insights on how Dutch bicycle infrastructure could be translated into other parts of the world.
